Observational Studies

Image
Observations Both of my observations are showed here. I went with graphite on the human studies, and color and ink on the clothing studies. These are simple to explain, i went for a messy look on both, which is usually my style. Lots of my work consists of this messy, wrinkled line work that ties everything together in an odd way. The clothing study focuses on the jeans and the jacket mostly, showing them separate and also paired together.

Airport Project

"Smoking Kills"            My rough draft is shown on the left, along with the final piece on the right. This piece portrays a man smoking a cigarette, minding his mindful business. I titled it smoking kills because smoking kills. Not trying to be some corny "stop smoking" person, I could care less what you do with your life or body. I used a contour line practice with graphite, overlaid with water color.           The principle I mainly used was line, obviously because i did a contour line piece. Before the color hit the page, it was just graphite, showing more value than it does with water color. I decided to use color to try and swing the mood to a dark happiness if that makes sense.           To be one hundred percent honest, i am disappointed in how this came out, i rushed the water colors, butchering the rest of the piece.

Project of Choice

Image
This idea started from a photo i took in downtown Boston, MA  I like my pieces to have simplicity yet have angles and shading that make it more than simple, like the red door or the clouds “drawing” in from behind the buildings. I usually start off with mechanical pencil, using a ruler i neatly draw each and every line. Then after everything is in place i go over it very fast and messy. My main principle is to distort the average viewing position of real life.

Visual Narrative

This piece to me was a chance to show the emotion of how some people can feel on a day to day basis. I used pencil along with a touch of red. I like having all graphite on my work then adding the color red into it to make it pop and prosper the viewer. People can “paint a picture” of what their life seems to be, but you can never for sure know what someone is going thru. I chose to draw a bully or someone that just doesn’t get along with rules to well, in a hard place in their head. Everyone has something to deal with, no matter who you are.

Figure Project

Image
This is the starting phase of if someone were to actually draw the human details of a figure, i got some inspiration from various artists. I love the “fast drawing” sketches and i incorporate it into my artwork.      My piece has the principle of emphasis, trying to have these dark fast lines that go all over the place.       There isn’t much story to it besides a female maybe grieving over the death of a family member, in such a helpless and thoughtless position.      My strengths consist of the darkness and lightness of the different lines, some being as dark as i could make them, and some being light to outline the figure in a way.
